PremierVPN review

IndependentUnited Kingdom / SwitzerlandProvisional

A WhatVPN review is now underway, and the early numbers are real: on a 500 Mbps line, WireGuard held 456 Mbps to the UK and 380 Mbps to the US (dropping to ~120 Mbps to Australia, as expected over that distance), with VLESS marginally faster still. Streaming unblocks BBC iPlayer and Netflix reliably; Amazon Prime is intermittent. Leak checks (WebRTC, DNS, IPv6) and a hard kill-switch test all passed — no traffic escaped. The one dimension still capped is privacy: the no-logs claim is credible but not yet backed by a named, published independent audit, and that — not capability — is what holds the overall score down.

Security assessment — attribution pendingPremierVPN reports an independent security assessment, said to include a server/root-level and data-handling review. Until it is published with the assessor named, dated and citable, it isn't counted toward the Privacy & Trust score — that attribution is the one missing piece. A named, dated report from an independent assessor (e.g. Cure53, Securitum, NCC Group, or a named university researcher) would move this into the Privacy & Trust score.

On jurisdiction: UK operations sit under the Investigatory Powers Act 2016, which is a genuine consideration for privacy-critical users; the Swiss presence offsets some of this. A no-logs architecture matters more here than the flag on the door.

Scorecard

Five weighted categories, same rubric as every other provider. How this is calculated →

Provisional score — review in progressProvisional — WhatVPN review in progress. Speed, streaming and leak/kill-switch protection are from our own first-look testing; leak checks passed cleanly. Privacy remains capped pending a named, published independent audit of the no-logs claim. Scores will change as the review completes. Privacy is held at its current level until an independent audit verifies the no-logs claim.

Strengths

  • Rare protocol range: VLESS (xHTTP + REALITY) for censorship resistance, plus WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2 and OpenConnect
  • Strong, verified first-look speeds (456 Mbps UK / 380 Mbps US on a 500 Mbps line), dedicated per-protocol servers and WireGuard port forwarding
  • Independently owned — outside both the Kape and Nord Security groups

Trade-offs

  • No published independent no-logs audit yet — the main blocker to a higher, final score
  • Amazon Prime unblocking is currently intermittent; streaming not yet fully tested
  • UK jurisdiction is a mixed signal, and the server/location footprint is smaller than the giants
